Chair massage was born in the United States in 1980 on David Palmer's initiative.

Two years later, the first massage  school teaching Amma appeared, led by David Palmer himself, a disciple of the Japanese Takashi Nakamura, and the first to try this new massage technique in a sitting position.

Chair massage is similar to the traditional Japanese acupressure art, Amma.

In addition, shiatsu massage and Swedish massage, chiropractic and reflexology have some similarities with some of the techniques of chair massage.

This aims to release energy by stimulating muscles and joints.

Chair massage routine

The session of a seated massage is very short, since it lasts only about fifteen minutes.

It can be done in any place, but requires the use of a chair designed for this purpose.

At the office or in any other public place, the practice of chair massage is common.

In addition, it does not require any massage oil and can be applied to a dressed person.

The movements applied follow a determined order according to the "kata" (pressures, percussions, stretching and sweeping).

The practitioner particularly targets the patient's acupuncture points to relax.

As the seated massage has been developed to make the massage financially accessible and possible for a reduced time, an energy balance is not required.

Only a series of specific questions are asked to ensure that the client is not fasting, under medical treatment or in a painful place. It is also not recommended for pregnant women.

Chair massage starts from the shoulders to the back, then from the neck to the hips, then from the arms to the hands, and finally up to the head.

It does not touch the legs, unlike a full Amma massage, which takes care of the whole body and is performed in a lying position.
