As a source of well-being, friction  massage is a deep stroke that aims to untie the knots, relieving some muscular pains.

Tt applies with greater intensity of movement. In addition, the heat produced during the massage also melts the fat which is then evacuated via natural ducts of the body.

friction massageMassage friction techniques is performed with fingertips.

Principles of friction massage

It consists in applying to the massage zone a more or less intense pressure depending on the desired effect. If effleurage massage has effect only at the level of the epidermis, friction makes it possible to act through different skin layers.

This in-depth action also allows to act on the muscles and joints as well as to optimize blood and lymphatic system.

In practice, massage friction techniques use a little more intense pressure compared to effleurage massage. The massage therapist makes firm pressure using the tip of his thumbs.

Under its intensity, skin moves on the surface and the muscle knots are loosened in depth. For well muscled areas, thumb pressure isn't enough. In this case, the massage therapist can use his fists for more effeciency.

In addition, movements must be circular: the massage therapist moves back and forth, spreading progressively over the treatment zone.  Part of your skin moves following the movement of the hands of the massage therapist; it is thanks to this movement that friction can mobilize fasciae, tendons, ligaments and muscles.

Regular friction followed with adequate physical exercise is also indicated to melt lipid tissue.

Application modality

Like effleurage massage, friction only applies to clean, healthy skin. Depending on your desired goal, the massage therapist can rub bare hands or use massage gloves.

The duration of friction in a massage session is about five minutes. This time varies according to the desired effect, the extent of the area to be treated and your physical tolerance.

During the session, the intensity of the pressure must increase gradually to avoid any inconvenience. High pressure can cause pain in sensitive people.
